operational safety - part K

The 1998 Approved Document (amended 2000) to Part K of the Building Regulations ‘Protection from falling, collision and impact’ requires ramps, stairs and landings to be clear of obstructions including door swings, except at the bottom of a flight/ramp where a clear space of 400mm is maintained.Doors to cupboards or ducts may also open on to landings at the top of flights/ramps if the 400mm clear space is maintained. Safety features are also required for power-operated doors and vision panels stipulated for doors on main traffic routes or which can be pushed open from both sides (see Section M for sizes).
